Ice-o-bar is a calcium chloride based product that is designed to effect the removal of ice and snow.
Ice-o-bar is highly effective down to -20 ºF / -29 °C and has a residual action that both inhibits re-freezing and will combat additional snowfall.
Ice-o-bar is hygroscopic (will absorb and retain water) and produces an exothermic reaction (heat producing) when applied to snow/ice that gives an increased performance for melting ice/snow when compared to rock salt. Studies have shown that Ice-o-bar can deice up to twice as fast as rock salt (sodium chloride) application.
Environmental effects of Ice-o-bar are similar to sodium chloride. It is not biodegradable but will be substantially removed during water treatment.
